Broke through for his first major victory when he won the Clariden Leu Singapore Masters in 2007, beating Malaysia's Iain Steel in a play-off. Liang had to save par with a four-foot putt on the 18th hole in regulation to force a play-off and emulated Zhang, who was triumphant in the same event in 2003, with another par on the 18th when Steel found water from off the tee. He later donated all his prize winnings of over US$183,000 to the development of golf in China. Liang enjoyed a stellar season in 2006 with a fourth place finish at the Barclays Singapore Open being the main highlight. He has also established himself in Japan, posting five top-10s in 2006. As an amateur, he made a name for himself by winning the China Amateur Open three times in a row.
