A press conference was held at the China World Hotel Beijing to announcethe world’s best athlete Tiger Woods’ visit to China and the arrangement of the“Tiger Woods Mission Hills China Challenge”. The two events demonstrated China’s magnetism to top international athletesand boosted the interaction between the Sports in China and the rest of the world.

China’s successful bidding for the Olympics. In the process ofthe bidding, Dr. David Chu set up an advisory committee of over 10 biddingspecialists. In his personal capacity, he also met Olympic Site Selectioncommittee Chairman Hein Verbruggen and Olympic sponsors for public relationsand proposal activities. In addition, he made a proposal at 2005 generalassembly of CPPCC National Committee for better participation by Hong Kong. He was actively involved in the coordinationfor the holding of equestrian competition of 2008 Olympics in Hong Kong.

The Els Course is completedby the legendary South African golfer, Ernie Els, adding the fifth18-holelayout to the Mission Hills complex.

The Mission Hills TigerWoods China Challenge marks the legendary player’s first trip to China. Theevent and visit by golf’s greatest modern ambassador raises the awareness ofthe sport among millions of Chinese and stirs a tremendous growth in the country’sgolfing population in the ensuing years.

2002:

Mission Hills hosts theErnie Els China Challenge on its new course by the South African legend.

2003:

Mission Hills hosts theinaugural Dynasty Cup, a tournament it developed in conjunction with the AsianTour and Japan Tour; the tournament pits Team Asia against Team Japan in aRyder Cup-style event.

Mission Hills opens 5 more18-hole courses designed by Annika Sorenstam, David Duval, David Leadbetter,Jose Maria Olazabal and Greg Norman. Construction on the five courses iscompleted in a mere 12 months, setting a new development bench mark for theindustry.

2004:

With 10courses and 180holes, Mission Hills is accredited by the Guinness World Records as the world’slargest golf club, beating America’sfamous Pinehurst Golf Club with 8x 18-hole courses.

Mission Hills creates the“Mission Hills Golfathon”, an annual tradition at the resort thatsees thousands of avid golfers from around the world vie to record the bestscore across 10 courses (180 holes).

2006:

Mission Hills and TheCeltic Manor Resort in Wales(venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup)join hands in hosting the inaugural GoodwillTrophy - a tournament which pits the best golfers from the Ryder Cup countriesagainst the rest of the world.

Mission Hills becomes the“Home of the Faldo Series Asia” as the series’ original launching partner.Hosting the annual Grand Finals on its Faldo Course, Mission Hills and NickFaldo join efforts to promote junior golf development in Asia.

Mission Hills and the AsiaPacific Golf Confederation jointly create the Mission Hills Asia Pacific OpenAmateur Championship, the first event in China where players’ results countedtoward The R&A’s amateur rankings. The success of this tournament over thenext 3 years paved the way for the creation of the prestigious Asian AmateurChampionship.

2007:

Adding an eleventh courseby master golf course architect Pete Dye, and a twelfth layout by the Chinesegodfather of golf, Zhang Lian-wei, Mission Hills is now complete with 12courses featuring a total of 216 holes. The club beats its own world record andagain is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest golfclub.

The World Cup of Golfbegins a new and exciting era of success under its new title “Omega MissionHills World Cup” when Mission Hills secures an unprecedented deal to host thetournament through 2018. The event boasts Asia’shighest purse and is the only event on the continent sanctioned by all internationalGolf Tours.

2008:

Mission Hills and Jack Nicklausjoin hands in creating the Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship; thetournament aims to create opportunities for junior golfers of all nationalitiesunder the age of 18 to compete against each other under professional tournamentconditions.

Mission Hills hosts the54thWorld Cup of Golf, the second consecutive edition of the tournament at its homein Chinathrough 2018. 180,000 spectators and television viewers in 148 countries watch TeamSwedenwin the prestigious title. 

2009:

Mission Hills, the Masters,the R&A and the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation jointly announce thecreation of the Asian Amateur Championship. With its exemption to the Masters,the Asian Amateur Championship takes the blue print of the Mission HillsAsia-Pacific Open Amateur Championship to the next level.

Mission Hills hosts theinaugural Asian Amateur Championship. The event sets new standards around theworld for premier amateur golf competitions and is broadcast in over 150countries.

PGA TOUR’s Board ofDirectors honours Dr. David Chu, founder and chairman of Mission Hills China,with the creation of an award in his name. His pioneering work in the sportalso earns him the honour of becoming the award’s first recipient. Dr. Chujoins the likes of Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Payne Stewartwith Tour-sponsored awards. It is anticipated that in future years the awardwill be given in Dr.Chu’s name to other worthy recipients who have beeninstrumental in developing golf in China.

Mission Hills hosts the55th World Cup of Golf, the third consecutive edition since the club took onits role as long term host of the Omega Mission Hills World Cup in2007. Astrong field with 3 of the top 10 players competes for the honor of theircountry and US$5.5 million in prize money. Italy’sMolinari brothers seize the 2009 championship title in a final round show down,winning with one point over last year’s champions Swedenand Team Irelandin a tie for second place.

Dr. David Chu, founder andchairman of Mission Hills, has been named to Golf Inc.’s 2009 list of the “MostPowerful People in Golf” Dr. Chu rose from No. 9 in 2008 to No. 7 in the latestranking. For the second consecutive year, he is the highest-ranked non-American.Other Top 10 honourees include Jack Nicklaus (No.1)， Tiger Woods (No. 3) and PGA TOUR Commissioner TimFinchem (No. 6).

2010:

Mission Hills announced thecreation of the Mission Hills Golf Series Junior Tour, it promises to nurtureand develop a deeper pool of golf talent in China.

The 4th Faldo Series Asiacame to successful close on 12 March 2010, Japanese Masamichi ITO becameoverall champion at the Grand Final.

PGA announced the OMEGAWorld Cup becomes bi-annually, the 2011 World Cup will beheld in Mission Hills ·Haikou.

2010 Boao Haikou Golf andTourism forum was held at Mission Hills Haikou on 18th March. In thesame day, the Mission Hills Star Trophy held the initial Press conference.

28th March, TheMission Hills Golf Academy by Zhang Lian-wei has finally unveiled itself to thepublic on 28 March 2010.23rd April, The Mission Hills Star Trophy held the secondround Press conference.

1st July, Mission Hills China,developer of the world’s largest golf club and impetus for China’s golf boom, has partnered with acclaimed instructorHank Haney to establish the Hank Haney Golf Academy at Mission Hills – Haikou.

23rd June, TheMission Hills Star Trophy held the third round Press conference in Beijing and announcedthat Michael Phelps and Aaron Kowk will be participants.

27th July, GregNorman Mission Hills Junior Development Program which featured 37 golfers aged11-15 from nine provinces around China, is a non-profit initiative aimed atcultivating a wider pool of golfing talent with the goal of producing China’sfirst Olympic golfer sin time to compete in Rio in 2016, when the sport returnsto the Games roster. This program will be held every year and last for oneweek, with participants determined by selection trials and references from China’sprovincial golf associations.
