18/9 Martina Hingis After Match Press Conference

　　R: Congratulations on your first victory in China Open. Please comment on this match and your opponent.

　　H: I played against Tiantian last year in Miami and I played well then. I really feel excited to be here in Beijing. Things have been going on in the last few years and I’m looking forward to next year’s Olympic Games. That’s why I decided to come here and have a look at the city. In this tournament I know what I expect. Last night it was raining and match was delayed. I’m looking forward to tonight’s players’ party. Also I will visit three places in Beijing: the Great Wall, the Summer Palace and the Forbidden City.

　　R: Every time when you have practice session, your fans are all outside around the court. Do you feel surprised that you are loved here by so many people?

　　H: Before I came here, I heard that I had many fans here. I don’t want to make any comparison here. It’s always been like this wherever I go to somewhere. This is my first time here and I’m really excited to find such a lot of fans. I’m happy that people enjoy my game and that I can show great tennis to them.

　　R: Sun Tiantian broke your first serve game in the 1st set. Please tell us more about it.

　　H: She started very well and hit some good return points. I was not ready in the first game but later when I broke hers, my confidence came back. In my next match, I definitely will get ready from the first point, not from the first game. If I can choose the task, I will choose receiving rather than serving (joking).

　　R: 1You’ve been playing tennis around the world. This is your first time here in Beijing. Could you please tell us which part do you feel different between China Open and other tournaments?

　　2 How do you evaluate the performance of the Organizing Committee, China Open?

　　H: 1 The city is very nice and beautiful. The court here is good. I have everything I want from the first point to the last. Body guards, luxuries, hotel, and the hospitality. In the last two and three days, the weather here is not good. But today we see the sun and everything turns out to be fine. I’m positive so far. Actually I don’t want to spend all the time on the court because I want to see more about the city. But if I can play all the week here, I will also be happy.

　　R: Talk about your next opponent Peng Shuai. How much do you know about her?

　　H: We met once in the last year. It was a tough match. She was a good hitter from the baseline and she made many rallies. She was solid. It was quite similar like today’s match.

　　R: This is the second year you came back to the tournaments. Can you tell us the difference you feel between this year and last year?

　　H: I really enjoy coming back and playing all over the world. In the first year, I got much attention from everywhere and I felt much pressure. This year the public is calmer as I’m fitting in the matches. People gradually know what to expect as I follow the path. The pressure on my shoulder is less than last year after the successes I’ve made. I’m happy that my mother is here in Beijing to accompany me.

　　R: Since you’ve talked about your mother, I want to ask why your mother comes to China with you, not in US Open.

　　H: We didn’t work in the last year when I was traveling to play the tournaments. I’m really happy to have herr back. It’s quite different to have my mother around. She is like a friend, a coach, and a mother all in one.
