新浪体育讯 June 19, 2009: Australian Kurt Barnes shot a four-under-par 68 to go 13-under and hold a two-stroke lead after the second round of the inaugural RMB700,000 Dongfeng Nissan Teana Open on the Omega China Tour。

Korean teenager Eom Jae-woong shot a 66 to go 11-under, one ahead of Chinese power-hitter Yuan Hao (70) at the Anji King Valley Country Club in Zhejiang province。

National team amateur Kevin Huang Wenyi shot a second 68 to lie eight-under with Thailand’s Pariya Junhasavasdikul, who shot a 67。

Li Chao (67), Australian Anthony Brown (71) and 20-year-old amateur Han Ren (70) share sixth on seven-under, one ahead of Thai legend Thaworn Wiratchant (68), He Shaocai (69) and Korean Lee Joung-wook (70)。

The big-hitting Barnes, nicknamed ‘Australia’s John Daly’, birdied four of the last five holes to retain the lead, which he held after his Tour-record opening 63。

“I’ve played really great the last two days. I actually feel happier today than the opening round, because I ground it out,” said the 28-year-old, who had seven birdies and three bogeys。

“On the back nine, I had two soft bogeys with wedges in hand, which was annoying. However, I then birdied the 14th, which gave me trouble on Thursday, and that started a nice final few holes。”

Barnes will play in Saturday’s final flight with fellow big hitters Eom and Yuan as he targets a second victory in three Omega China Tour events following his win at April’s Sofitel Zhongshan IGC Open in Nanjing。

“I’m quietly confident, but I won’t think about who wins till 4.00pm on Sunday,” said Barnes, joint-fifth in last week’s Luxehills Golf Championship in Chengdu。

“The course is set out great for me. I’m playing well and if I can break 70 on Saturday and Sunday, then someone will have to play well to beat me。”

Eom set the clubhouse lead at 11-under after a 66. The shy 18-year-old, who also plays on the Korean Tour, said he had benefited from playing the first two rounds with amateur Quan Da, a good friend from Qingdao。

“It was really hot, but I played well today. It was great playing with Quan Da, as we’re good friends,” said Eom, who spoke in Korean with Quan translating. “I was safe with my tee-shots, and my iron play and putting were good. I would love to win, but there’s a long way to go。”

Kevin Huang Wenyi, one of four national team players in the field, also benefited from friendly support as he shot his second successive 68。

“It’s been great having my friend Yu Guanghui caddie for me this week, as it helps me feel relaxed,” said Huang, 27。

“I feel strong this week, as we’ve been working on physical fitness during national team training. My course management has also been good, as I’ve only used the driver on a few holes and avoided risks。”

Li shot a bogey-free 67 to return his best score of the year and indicate a return to form for the eight-time Omega China Tour champion and two-time Omega Order of Merit winner。

Brown, 26, is also in good form, having finished joint-seventh in Chengdu last week。

“My front nine was really solid. I actually played well on the back nine, but hit a couple of bad shots, which meant I wasn’t able to get up and down,” Brown said. “I’m happy with my form and I’m in with a shout if I keep doing what I’ve been doing。”

Young amateur Zhi Shang, 18, shot the low round of the day, bagging 10 birdies in his 64, a full 16 strokes better than his opening round。

Liao Guiming, the reigning Omega Order of Merit winner and fourth last week, carded a 70 to go two-under. Chen Jian, the surprise winner of last week’s Luxehills Golf Championship in Chengdu, shot a 71 to go one-over。

The Nissan field includes nine PGA Tour of Australasia and five Mercedes-Benz Tour pros, and two invites each from Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong。
