Su Dong shoots 67 to share halfway leadhttp://sports.sina.com.cn 2008年05月24日13:58 新浪体育
新浪体育讯 May 23, 2008: James Su Dong, the Vancouver-based 18-year-old, pounded Gary Player’s Nanjing Zhongshan layout into submission with a five-under-par 67 to share the halfway lead with Liao Guiming in the Sofitel Golf Championship, the fifth stop on this year’s Omega China Tour. Liao, the first-round leader after a 66, posted an early 69 to go nine-under and set the bar at the beautiful Nanjing Zhongshan International Golf Club, named the Omega China Tour’s Best Venue of the Year in 2007. Su and Liao will play in Saturday’s final flight with Gu Cuilin, who shot five successive birdies in a best-of-the-day 65 to go five-under, level with Chinese Taipei invite Tsai Chi-huang, who posted a 67 after bogeying the last. However, all will be conscious of Zhang Lianwei, who recorded a 68 to lurk in fifth place on four-under. Su started the day quietly with five pars, but a bogey on six sparked the big hitter into life, as he eagled the 548-yard seventh after hitting a four-iron 230 yards to 15 feet. Five birdies in his last eight holes, offset by a three-putt bogey on the 200-yard 17th, put him top of the leaderboard and in the final flight for the first time on this year’s Omega China Tour. “I had a hot hand on the back nine, so made birdie putts on 11, 13, 14 and 15. I hit most of the greens and was four-under for the par-fives. I should be birdieing those, so it’s generally a case of trying to get more birdies than bogeys on the other holes,” said Su, who was third in last month’s Kunming Championship behind Chinese Taipei’s Lu Wen-teh and 16-year-old amateur Benny Ye Jianfeng.
