Early Discus Star 早期铁饼明星

　　Irish-American Martin Sheridan was the worlds finestall-roundathlete until the arrival of Jim Thorpe, and the greatestdiscusthrower until Al Oerter.In addition to winning the discus atthe1904, 1906 and 1908 Olympic Games, Sheridan won the shot putin1906 and the Greek-style discus in 1908. To these five goldmedalshe added three silver medals in 1906 in the stone throw andthestanding jumps and a bronze medal in the standing long jumpin1908.

　　爱尔兰裔美国人谢里登，是吉姆·索普之前世界上最优秀的全能田径运动员，同时也是阿尔·奥特之前最优秀的铁饼运动员。

　　除了在1904、1906和1908年奥运会铁饼比赛中3次夺冠外，谢里登还夺得1906年奥运会铅球和1908年奥运会古典式铁饼比赛的金牌。

　　同时，谢里登还在1906年奥运会上夺得扔石头、立定跳高和跳远比赛的3枚银牌，以及1908年立定跳远比赛的铜牌。

　　注：1906年，国际奥委会为纪念第一届现代奥运会成功举办10周年，在希腊雅典举办了一届届间奥运会。
