Handsome Aleksandr Dityatin first appeared at the Olympicsin1976, winning a silver medal in the gymnastics team event. Healsoplaced fourth in the individual all-around event, missing amedalby only five hundredths of a point. On 25July,1980, Dityatin won six medals in one day, taking the gold ontherings and silvers on the horizontal bar, llel bars and pommelhorseand in the vault event. He also earned a bronze medal in thefloorexercise. Dityatin is the athlete in Olympic history to wineightmedals in one Olympic Games. He was also the first malegymnast tobe awarded a perfect score of ten in an Olympiccompetition, a feathe accomplished in the long horse vault.
