新浪体育讯 CHINESE PLAYERS: WE DID OUR BEST’

XIAMEN (China) Dec 16, 2007: It was a good effort from Chinese players Zhang Na and Feng Shanshan in the own national Open – the USD250,000 Orient China Ladies Open that concluded here today.

Zhang, the more experience of the two, played strongly to stage a fight-back to try and go for a podium finish, sadly it did not happen. However, she’s contended with her performance here.

“There is a lot of pressure for me to catch up and do the unexpected. I can’t play to the tune of the gallery but can only concentrate and play my way. I believe we did our best,” she said, adding that it was not a bad effort after all.

Feng Shanshan, who had her first taste playing of playing as a professional, said the Chinese players were not able to sustain and lacked consistency. “I’m not saying that the 1 and 2-under scores that Zhang Na and I achieved is not good, but it could be better. We cannot win tournaments by finishing with a 1 or 2-under total,” said Shahshan, who will spend her time between now and her first USLPGA tournament in February next year (SBS Open in Hawaii) fine-tuning all aspects of her game,” she said.

Zhang Na also echoed the same feeling. “Consistency is a vital aspect of playing any game. It’s also means that our form must be good, must posses a strong heart, feel confident and have the fighting qualities in us,” Zhang who pocketed USD10,000 for her effort in finishing fifth.

Shanshan said to have 13 Chinese professional make the cut for the final round is a testimony that the players gradually getting into the mould and fitting well to compete against better player from Korea and elsewhere.
