新浪体育讯 Name:Zhang Lian Wei Date of Birth:2 May 1965 Country: PR China
Residence:Shenzhen, PR China Turn Pro:1994 China’s undisputed number one, Zhang was among the first generation of golfers in China to turn pro in the mid-nineties. Now a member of the Asian and European Tour, Zhang has proven himself against the game’s big names. In 1998, he defeated Colin Montgomerie in the Alfred Dunhill Cup at St Andrews and in October 2002, beat three-time Major winner Nick Price to defend his Macau Open title at the fifth play-off hole. His greatest victory though, came in 2003 when he birdied his last hole to defeat Ernie Els at the Caltex Masters and became the first Chinese player to win a European Tour title. Including the co-sanctioned Caltex Masters, the unassuming star has five Asian Tour titles to date. His prolific performances earned him a special invitation to play at Augusta in 2004, becoming only the fourth player to receive such an invitation, and the first from China to play in the Masters. Finishing 19th on the Asian Tour Order of Merit last year, Zhang will hope for a solid showing on home soil to stage a challenge in 2006. |
