George Postolos

George Postolos enters his fifth season with the Houston Rockets. Postolos, who joined the Rockets in October 1998, oversees all facets of the organization's business.
Since his arrival to Houston, Postolos has worked diligently to further the organization's mission to be one of the league's elite teams on and off the court. In four years, he has provided direction on all business decisions and enhanced the relationships the team enjoys with the community.
Postolos has been instrumental in the organization's efforts to streamline the business operations insgroupsto improve efficiency and customer service. One of Postolos' first initiatives with the Rockets was "Project Call All," an organization-wide effort to personally call each season ticket holder to welcome them back for the start of the new season. For one entire day, staff members called every season ticket holder in an effort to renew and further develop relationships with key stakeholders in the organization.
Postolos' commitment to building on the organization's successes has included an intense focus on community service and charitable giving. In July 2000, the Rockets organization made a donation of .25 million to establish Kim's Place - a special place for adolescents battling cancer - in honor of the late Comets guard Kim Perrot. Through the donation, the organization established a partnership with The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center that will enhance the lives of young people in need while allowing the Rockets and Comets as well as their supporters to continue their tradition of giving back to the community. The seven-figure gift was the second-largest single donation ever made by a NBA team.
On a day-to-day basis, Postolos serves as the leader of the organization's senior executive committee, which sets strategic goals for the Rockets and analyzes future growth opportunities for the enterprise. He also supervises each of the organization's business units, including business development, corporate development, finance and administration, legal, marketing, and ticket sales and services. Postolos also works closely with team owner Leslie Alexander in pursuing new sports properties and other business opportunities.
Much of Postolos' effort during the last four years revolved around negotiating and organizing support for a new arena for the city. In November 2000, Harris County voters approved a referendum to build a new home for the Rockets and Comets. Groundbreaking for the arena took place on July 31, 2001, in downtown Houston. The new arena will open in September 2003.
Postolos arrived in Houston after a two-year stint as Special Assistant to NBA Commissioner David Stern. It was during his time working for Stern that Postolos made an impression on Alexander. When Alexander began looking for a new face to head his sports enterprise, Postolos, with his knowledge of the NBA and Texas ties, was an obvious choice.
Raised in San Antonio, Postolos worked as a teenager for his hometown San Antonio Spurs, which were owned by family friend, Angelo Drossos. He left Texas after high school to pursue both undergraduate and law school degrees at Harvard, then clerked for a judge on the Texas Supreme Court before joining the New York law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.Postolos and his wife, Nicole, reside in Houston with their seven-year-old son and infant daughter.
